Issue with ‘Add Course Sections’ button on Saved Schedule

Issue with ‘Add Course Sections’ button on Saved Schedule

June 13, 2024

The ‘Add Course Sections’ button on the student’s saved schedule is not currently giving alerts when a course has not scheduled all required instructional formats.

What is the Issue?

This applies to courses with multiple instructional formats missing scheduled course sections for a required instructional format.  This issue is presented most frequently for special topics courses if they are scheduled incorrectly.

When a student user adds course sections to their Saved Schedule using the 'Add Course Sections' button, students will not receive an error notification that they have not added a course section for each required instructional format. This will occur in scenarios where the course is not scheduled properly and does not have course sections of a required instructional format for a student to choose from. This means students will be able to add a course section of only one of the required instructional formats without encountering an error or alert. When the student goes to register from their saved schedule, the registration for that course will receive an error as they are not able to select all course sections.

However, if students add the course section to the saved schedule directly from the 'Find Course Sections' report, they will receive an error notification.

Who is Impacted?

Students building and using the Add Course button on their Saved Schedules as outlined in the training material. Staff supporting student registration.

What is the impact?

Students will not be aware on their saved schedule that their registration into the course will not be successful.  Students will receive an error when they attempt to register.

Staff will receive inquiries from students at the time of registration that they now have errors and do not know how to resolve.  Staff should work with the staff in their department that do scheduling to ensure sections are created for all required instructional formats.

What is the status?

Teams are investigating for resolution to find special topics courses that are not correctly scheduled; updates will be posted here as available.
